Buying
used second hand stairlifts, Chair lifts is a big commitment
and one that shouldn't be rushed. Get it wrong! You will surly
be out of pocket for a good few hundred pounds (If your lucky)
Only last week i
was talking to a person who had bought a second hand stairlift
off eBay. He paid £600.00 and tried to install it with
the help of his brother. They installed the stairlift carriage
incorrectly and cracked the stairlift body casting. The repair
bill would have cost more than the stairlift they had just purchased
They eventually paid
a local professional stairlift company to supply and fit a reconditioned
stairlift costing the brothers £900.00, it actually cost
them £1500 in total so as you can see they saved a small
fortune and lived happily ever after (Yes I'm being sarcastic)
Stairlifts are becoming
a lot simpler to install due to all stairlift manufacturers
producing battery D.C. stairlifts. No complicated mains wiring!
Most battery stairlifts can be plugged into a standard mains
outlet-socket
If you intend to
buy a second hand stairlift then it would be wise to purchase
a battery D.C. stairlift. With that said! I don't recommend
DIY stairlift installations! We are dealing with moving machinery
and if not installed correctly and checked by a qualified engineer
then sadly someone could get seriously hurt or even loss of
life. There have been a number of cases within the last 2 years
and one poor child lost his life through incorrect installation
of a stairlift
I'm not trying to scaremonger! Just pointing out a few simple
facts, that might not have occurred to you yet? Stairlifts are
handed! Right Hand units, Left hand units. All electrical safety
edges are wired to operate for the chosen hand of stairlift.
Its critical
that you check the stairlift safety edges. Ensure they operate
correctly and stop the stairlift in the direction it is traveling
in
If your staircase
requires a curved stairlift then trying to buy a second hand
stairlift is
a no brainer! Curved stairlifts are mainly bespoke design! each
rail is custom built for your individual staircase.
We all like to save
money and buying second hand used unwanted stairlifts chair
lifts might seem like a good option at the time to reduce the
costs of buying new or reconditioned stairlifts
The point I'm trying
to make! Unless you are mechanical minded or have qualifications
on moving rotating machinery then i would steer well clear of
trying to do things on the cheap. (I know I'm talking to a brick
wall)
I'm not against anyone
trying to save money! Just remember the old adage‘ Forewarned
is forearmed’ this is the consumers' best weapon! We all
have the responsibility to educate ourselves whether about purchasing
Second hand stairlifts, Computers, Best buys at local supermarkets
or engaging the services of local tradesmen
